Aga Khan Palace
True to its name this place boasts of Italianate arches and spacious lawns, an unlikely place for a prison but the Britishers interned Mahatma Gandhi and his wife Kasturba Gandhi here.The architecture of the palace will take you down memory lane, reminding you of the illustrations from fairy tale houses.
Shaniwarwada is a must see place on a tourist itinerary especially the light and sound show in the evening. Shaniwarwada was the stately mansion originally built as the residence of the Peshwas. The foundation of the mansion was laid by Bajirao 1 in the year 1730 AD and construction was completed in 1732 AD at a cost of Rs. 16,120. The fort (Wada) was destroyed in a major fire in 1827, the cause of which still remains a mystery.
